ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL (EDC) B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College Promoted by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India – New Delhi under the dynamic leadership of the founder Alhaj B.S.Abdur Rahman.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL (EDC) of this college was established on its own initiative in the year 1999 with the Principal Dr.K.P.Mohammed as its Director and has been actively conducting programs in entrepreneurship with concerted initiatives to promote entrepreneurship among the students. Based on the performance The National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has agreed to provide financial support for five years from 2003.
The objective of promoting entrepreneurship among the youth is to nurture a passion for self-employment. This will open gates for creation of new knowledge-based innovative hi-tech ventures, industries and new breed of technopreneurs and more avenues of employment opportunities thus turning job seekers into job creators and in the process, leading the nation towards industrial excellence and self-reliance. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of this college aims towards achieving the above.
The education system should highlight the importance of entrepreneurship and prepare the students right from school and college education to get oriented towards setting up of enterprises which will provide them creativity, freedom and ability to generate wealth.

Dr.V.M.Periasamy Principal is the Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell. The EDC operates in a spacious building located in the college premises with its own Library and Seminar Hall.
THE BROAD OBJECTIVES OF EDC ARE
- To create awareness on entrepreneurship among the students.
- To inculcate entrepreneurial spirit and culture among the Science and Engineering graduates and post graduates.
- To conduct programs in Entrepreneurship enabling skills.
- To identify and motivate budding entrepreneurs.
- To create a database on industrial information to facilitate entrepreneurs by providing information on entrepreneurial opportunities.
- To assist entrepreneurs in sourcing finance, identifying market, preparation of business plan and product development.
- To guide the prospective entrepreneurs in knowledge based ventures.
- To help entrepreneurs to acquire necessary skills to run the industry effectively.
- To bridge the gap between Industries and Institutions by carrying out the research activities for the industries.
- To conduct skill industrial development training programs with updated technologies.
- To provide need-based consultancy services to industries.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-01)
The first Entrepreneurship Camp (EAC-01) was conducted for the benefit of 2nd year B.Tech (IT) students from 9th to 11th January 2007 in EDC Seminar Hall. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function was Dr. P. Aravindan, Dean of Engg. & Tech, MGR University, Chennai.
Dr. V.M. Periasamy, Principal, BSA Crescent Engineering College also graced the function. 60 students participated in the camp actively. The Chief Guest for the Valedictory function was Mr.K.Gopalakrishnan, President, Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (IEMA), Guindy, Chennai – 70. Certificates were issued by the Chief Guest to the participants at the end of the function.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-02)
The Second Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-02) was conducted for the benefit of the students of 2nd year & 3rd year B.E / B.Tech from 12th to 14th February 2007 in EDC Seminar Hall. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural function was Mr.K.Gopalakrishnan, President, Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (IEMA), Guindy, Chennai – 70. Students from various departments participated in the camp actively. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Professor.T.L.V. Subramanian, Dean of Management studies.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-03)
The third Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-03) was conducted for AirForce employees, Air Force Station, Tambaram from 23rd to 25th February 2007 in PG Seminar Hall, Mechanical Engineering Department. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural function was Capt. G.S. Nanda, Senior Medical Officer, AirForce Station, Tambaram and Guest of Honour was Dr. K.S.P. Rao, Anna University. 47 employees from Air Force Station registered for the camp. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Capt. G.S. Nanda, Senior Medical Officer, AirForce Station, Tambaram and the Guest of Honour was Dr. I. Mohammed Bilal, Head, Department of Chemistry.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-04)
The fourth Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-04) was conducted for the benefit of students of 1st year MBA between 27th and 28th February 2007 in EDC Seminar Hall. 60 students participated in the camp. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Professor.T.L.V.Subramanian, Head, and Department of Management Studies.
Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-05).
The fifth Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC-05) on “Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management” for 35 senior members of Air Force Station, Tambaram was conducted from 17th March 2007 to 13th April 2007. The program was highly appreciated by all the participants. Addressing at the Valedictory function on 13th April 2007 at EDC seminar hall, Principal Dr. V.M. Periasamy enlightened the participants that the real world exposure given by EDC in such programs will help the participants to become productive entrepreneurs.
He advised the EDC to conduct such programs with practical relevance for the benefit of our students so that the students can get a real world experience which not only help them in their placement but also in becoming dynamic entrepreneurs from day one in the industry where they are placed.
Seminar:
EDC, conducted a Seminar on “Systems Engineering and Application” for the Benefit of Student Entrepreneurship Club (SEC) members on 2nd March 2007.
Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Computer Hardware Maintenance and Servicing Technology was conducted from 14th December 2005 to 21st January 2006 at EDC, sponsored by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Mrs. S. Sumayaa Dawood, Principal, Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, Kilakarai 623 517, Ramanathapuram District.
TEDP on Hardware Maintenance & Servicing Technology was conducted during the month of June 2007. A total of 35 participants attended the program. The program was organized and conducted by EDC and the Department of Computer Applications, CEC,Vandalur.
EDC conducted Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp during 4th to 6th Febuary 2008 and about 130 students from the campus participated.
TEDP on hardware Maintenance & Servicing technology for six weeks started on 22 Feburary and a total of about 38 students are participating in it.
MBA students associated with EDC as Project Associates were given appreciation letters by the EDC along with a cash award. Addressing the MBA students while presenting the cash award Principal Dr. V. M. Periasamy encouraged the students to get associated with EDC on their ongoing projects and gain real world experience, which will help them in their placements in industries. He also mentioned that this experience only supplements their academic efforts in addition to earn in the form of “earn while you learn”
Seven participants of the earlier EACs have started their own enterprises in Chennai; and four students among them are from Crescent Engineering College.
EDC assisted one of the EAC participants to register as Professional Engineer in UK. He is planning to start his own industry.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS PROGRAMME was conducted by Dr.N.S.Sayeeda for Crescent Engineering College Students from 4th Feb to 6th Feb 2008. About 130 students attended and had a real time exposure to Entrepreneurship.
Dr.N.S.Sayeeda conducted one day intensive programme in SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME on 14.03.08.About 37 candidates participated in this programme.
6 WEEKS TECHNOLOGY BASED ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT in computer services and maintenance was conducted by Dr.N.S.Sayeeda from 22nd Feb to 31.03.08 for Buhari Aleem Arabic College Students |
