PROFILE OF PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

The Department of Physics, established in the year 1984, has good infrastructure facilities and excellent faculty members. The department caters to the needs of Engineering and Technology programmes and imparts knowledge in Applied Physics, Material Science and Engineering applications to the first year B.E./ B.Tech students. The department has been recognized as the Research Center by the Anna University for undertaking research studies for Ph.D/M.S. programmes under the supervision of the recognized supervisors of the department. Major research areas are Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Laser Optics, Optical Nonlinearity, Nonlinear dynamics and Non-destructive Testing. The department is dedicated to its objectives.

Objectives

  • To provide the students with a basic knowledge in theory and help acquire the skills in laboratory practice useful to the students in the subsequent years.
  • To ensure better quality of education by continuous monitoring, review of performance and counseling students.
  • To supplement the academic input of students by way of seminars, conferences and guest lectures.
  • To improve the quality of the faculty members through up-gradation of qualification, participation in/ conduction of seminars, workshops and publication of research papers and books.
  • To provide the state-of-the-art research facilities and offer opportunities for higher education in Science and Technology by research and development.

 

The faculty members are highly qualified and well experienced to provide sound knowledge in Physics to the budding engineers.

One member has submitted Ph.D thesis to the Anna University and two members are pursuing Ph.D. One member is qualified with M.Phil.

The faculty members have published nearly 24 International and National papers in reputed journals. Also, the faculty members have presented conference papers both in National (22 Nos.) and International level (11 Nos).

The department organizes State-level one-day seminar in Physics namely ‘CRESCIENCE ' once in three years which enables the students to display their skill and update their knowledge.

 

The Department has conducted Science Exhibition several times for the benefit of the students in and around Chennai.

 

The Department is organizing a National conference on Advanced Materials (NCAMS 2008) during December 2008.
