Student Activities

The association of Polymer Technologists (APT). An exclusive student body of the department conducts annually a national symposium, CRESMER, to bring polymer technologists together. The students from other institution are invited to participate in paper presentation, Design and technical quiz competitions. Eminent persons and experts from industry and research organizations are invited for special lectures to share their experience with the students. Such activities cultivate leadership qualities, professionalism and social responsibilities in the students. The APT also brings out a quarterly news magazine POLYLINKS which publishes the latest trends and developments in the field of polymers.

The students of the department are encouraged to participate in paper presentation, Design and quiz competition organized by other institutions. Performance in such events has been highly appreciable and in fact they bag considerable number of prizes and honors every year.

All the students are members of Indian Plastics Institute (IPI) and ISTE and they actively participate in the activities of IPI & ISTE.

Department students have obtained funds for their project proposals under the guidance of Dr R.Vasanthakumari from TNSCST.

1. Development of polyaniline based in – situ conducting nano composites by M/s S.Nirmala, T.J.Asker Ali, B.Mukthiar Basha and B.N.karthick . 2003- 2004
The same project after completion of the work was presented by the students in the seminar organized by TNSCST at American college, Madurai and bagged I prize during Sep17-18, 2004

2. Development of fire resistant / flame retardant fibre reinforced plastic for roofing application by M/s Sabitha Devi, R.Sheela Ramani, R Senthil kumar and D Durai babu, 2004-2005. The project details have been handed over to M/s Urbane Industries, Chennai. This project was presented in the seminar organized by TNSCST during 19-20, Aug , 2005 at Oxford Engineering College , Trichy and bagged I prize

Seminars / Workshops / training programmes / Exhibition organized

  • Department of Polymer Technology in coordination with Small Industries Service Institute , Guindy had organised 2 Week training programme on “Fibre Reinforced Plastic products for new entrepreneurs” during Nov. 19-30 , 2001 . The training programme was intended not only to educate the participants on the development of various engineering products using FRP but also to counsel and guide new entrepreneurs in their business ventures. 26 participants from all over Tamilnadu have participated the programme.
